THE HARMS CAUSED BY SERVING
FORMULA FEEDS OF THE WRONG CONCENTRATION
|
Serving feeds of the wrong concentration is very harmful. This is usually caused by the lack of education on correct preparation method and the lack of knowledge on the risks of non-compliance.
Diluted feeds lead to malnutrition, susceptibility to illness and prolonged recovery. The cause is largely an economic one.
Over-concentrated feeds are very harmful to infants as they can damage their tender kidneys, cause dehydration, brain damage and transient diabetes. The harms are mainly due to using more formula powder than prescribed by the manufacturer, as a result of failure to use scoops provided by them, not levelling scoopfuls properly with wrong levelling methods, use of wrong water volume and wrong scoop counts. Some parents deliberately use more formula powder than prescribed on the misguided believe that it will promote the health and growth of their child; not realising the serious harm it can cause to the child's life. |

PROBLEMS FACED IN THE USE OF EXTERNAL
SCOOP-LEVELLING UTENSILS IN FEED PREPARATION
|
|
Using an external scoop-levelling utensil in feed preparation has its inherent practical and contamination problems. It entails a time-consuming juggling process. The powder-coated scoop is first picked from the can with one hand to take a scoopful. The levelling utensil is held in the other hand to level the scoopful and it is then left on the table to free the hand to hold the feeding bottle for the levelled scoopful held in the other hand to be transferred into it. The bottle is then returned to the table, in order to pick the levelling utensil for levelling the next scoopful. This juggling act is repeated for every scoopful used. It is a confusing and time-consuming process which tends to cause wrong scoop counts, to result in harmful wrong feed concentration. |
Powder also drop onto the preparation table from the powder-coated levelling-utensil when it is placed thereon during and after feed preparation. This spillage will attract vermin (cockroaches, lizards and ants) to contaminate the table, the utensil left thereon and consequently the feeds prepared, especially at night.
Cockroaches and lizards will disappear on hearing the slightest movement or when the light is switched on, for the table to appear clean. Just imagine the health risk in re-using the contaminated levelling utensil left on the table for preparing the next night feed!

PROBLEMS OF POWDER-COATED SCOOPS AND
CROSS- CONTAMINATION FACED IN THE TRADITIONAL PRACTICE OF STORING THE SCOOP IN THE CAN OF POWDER
|
It is a traditional practice to keep the measuring scoop in the can of powder because there is not a more convenient way. The scoop is usually never washed and it inevitably gets heavily coated with powder which gets caked inside it, thereby affecting its measuring capacity and feed concentration as a result. Handling powder-coated scoops causes cross-contamination from the hand onto the scoop, from it into the can of powder and from there into the feeding bottle, to be finally consumed by the child.
Powder coated scoops are unpleasant and irritating to handle. Powder thereon are often transferred onto the hands and then onto the feeding bottle. Handling sticky bottles is disturbing during feed time, to the mother and the child.

THE PROBLEMS FACED IN PRE-MEASURING
POWDER IN SMALL PLASTIC BOXES FOR OUTDOOR FEEDS
|
Pre-measuring powder for outdoor feeds in small plastic boxes is faced with problems like difficulty in determining the number of feeds needed, the need to handle unused remnants and damp powder, non-airtight boxes, the risk of plastic BPA poisoning. Even BPA-Free may leach plastic chemicals. The child is left to suffer the awful taste and leached from plastic containers into the powder and the risk of plastic chemical poisoning during his entire infancy. |

SMALL OPENING IN FORMULA CANS HINDER THE POWDER SCOOPING PROCESS |
|
Some formula powder are packed in small cans with small openings which hinder the scooping process, especially powder for infants below six months old. The small can openings leave no room to manoeuvre the scooping process, especially the lower portions as the formula powder is used up.

PROBLEM OF SHARP CAN RIMS CUTTING HANDS |
|
Some formula can openings have a layer of aluminium foil covering which has to be cut out, leaving a sharp edge around the rim that can cut hands. Blood from cut hands can also drip on the can of powder.
The TEECY™ Formula Containers do not have any sharp edges and hence this problem is eliminated altogether.

END-PORTIONS OF POWDER
IN A NORMAL CAN ARE DIFFICULT TO SCOOP
|
|
End-portions of powder in a normal can are difficult to scoop due to the structure of the can and are usually left to be thrown away. This is very wasteful.
The TEECY™ Invention incorporates an internal "Base Drain" to facilitate the scooping of end-portions, thereby saving the powder wastage and saving money as well. Infant formula is not cheap.

There is a problem of general lack in air-tightness in normal containers, causing the formula powder to get damp and cake. This affects the quality and shelf life of the powder.

WORRISOME BPA AND PLASTIC CHEMICALS LEACHING
INTO INFANT FORMULA STORED IN PLASTIC CONTAINERS
|
The use of plastic containers for storing infant formula and for portioning pre-measured formula powder for outdoor feeds is faced with the risk of BPA which is a subject of international concern.
Commercial metal cans for infant formula are known to have an internal coating of plastic which is not visible to the eyes, to prevent cans from getting rusty. Even BPA-Free plastic containers might leach worrisome chemicals into infant formula, leaving the little child to suffer the awful plastic taste and risks in his entire infancy. See Relevant Medical Research References On Worrisome Chemical Leaching In BPA-Free Plastic Bottles.
